Blood Moon

by Celine Semaan Vernon

I woke up today expecting that my stress might have vanished, as I have read that the Lunar Eclipse will be bringing us a lot of change.

The Universe sent me this note today:

When fear speaks, celine, it's always wrong.

Game on,
The Universe

We are very excited to announce that we have refilled our stock for your favorite prints! Hurry before we run out again! It takes a lot of time to make them. Maybe that is why we are called Slow Factory, as we are slowly orbiting around the Earth, we also support the slow fashion movement, the slow everything movement as a matter of fact, and we are working towards a sustainable, environmentally friendly process that will allow us to grow very very slowly.

Back in stock!

Slowfactory and Valerie Dumaine

by Celine Semaan Vernon

VALÉRIE DUMAINE + SLOWFACTORY SPECIAL COLLABORATION

Greenland brings together the vision and designs of Valérie Dumaine with the innovative concepts and open-culture philosophy of Creative Commons advocate Celine Semaan, founder of Slowfactory.com.

These two limited edition items feature stunning NASA images of the world’s largest iceberg showing the Arctic ice melting as an effect of global warming.

Photos by Sylvain Blais.

Sea ice swirls in ocean currents off the east coast of Greenland on Aug. 17, 2012, as seen by the MODIS instrument on board the Terra satellite. Greenland's ice sheet and outlet glaciers can also be seen at left.

NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) announced on Aug. 27, 2012, that the ice cap covering the Arctic Ocean is now smaller than ever recorded since consistent satellite measurements of the ice began more than three decades ago. Each year, the ice cap goes through a shrink-and-swell cycle, melting throughout the summer months before expanding through fall and winter. In the past decade in particular the minimum summertime extent of the ice cap has shown a consistent decline in size – a trend closely linked with the Arctic's warming climate. NASA and NSIDC scientists said the extent of Arctic sea ice on Aug. 26 surpassed the previous record minimum extent set in the summer of 2007. The ice cap will continue to melt and get smaller in the coming weeks before temperatures get colder and ice begins to refreeze as fall approaches.

East Greenland Terra MODIS sea ice Aug. 17

This is a sneak peek, the dress is still in production. In the photo is Valérie Dumaine herself taking a selfie to send me by email. This dress will be sold as early as January 2013, its a co-creation with brilliant Montreal based designer Valérie Dumaine.
A friendship turned into a fun collaboration making this wonderful silk dress hand made in Montreal, designed to raise awareness on the planet we live in. The image is under Creative Commons and comes from of course, my main inspiration lately, NASA Goddard's flickr account.

Series of Oneness

by Celine Semaan Vernon

We have ONE available left in each of these prints. Time to break the piggy bank and get some of these unique beauties for your love ones!! First come first serve. We have been selling out quicker than we thought. As Tina Roth puts it in her Tattly blog post Things I have learned so far:

5. Prepare for success
I admit, I wasn’t prepared for the success. Luckily I was able to scale up very quickly and keep up with demand, which probably comes with the nature of the temporary tattoo business. This might not have been possible if I sold something with a much longer product cycle.
So, ask yourself, what if I get a ton of orders within the first few weeks? Can my business scale? Do I have a plan on how I will do that? Am I building my business on a system that will allow me to grow?
So here we go! Enjoy!

We <3 NASA

by Celine Semaan Vernon

Sea Ice off eastern Greenland

This is definitely our inspiration for next season. NASA's images of our dear and dying Earth.

EARTH <3 <3

After looking outside of her we want to zoom back into Earth and honor its beauty. Our favorite Flickr contact is for sure the NASA Goddard one! Open Data and science is what makes us vibrate here at Slow Factory. Stay tuned for our next collection and events!

What is this image about?

"NASA image acquired October 16, 2012
The MODIS instrument on NASA's Aqua satellite captured this visible image of Sea Ice off eastern Greenland on October 16, 2012."
